No surprise took place in the women’s individual all-around final at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. The gold was taken by Simone Biles.
With the best results in every apparatus except the uneven bars (third place), Biles took her second gold of the championships in Stuttgart, being also her 22nd World Championships medal. This way she increases her lead at the all-time record list – with 16 medals she’s the most titled and adding 3 silvers and 3 bronzes most decorated female gymnast in the history, for what she needed just six years (including an Olympic 2016, when the championships were not held, and 2017, when she took a year off from the gymnastic competition).
“I feel like nothing beats your first, just because you’ll always cherish and remember that one for ever. It’s definitely a great experience and I’m excited about it. We’ll go celebrate just like it was the first one” – said Biles after her victory on Thursday.
As there were two more places on the podium, it was a matter of just 0,500 point to decide a silver. That was the difference between Xijing Tang and Angelina Melnikova as the Chinese managed to make up the loss from the vault and the floor exercise in the uneven bars and the balance beam.
The apparatus events for women will be held on Saturday and Sunday, alongside with the men’s apparatus. Friday will be the day of the men’s individual all-around final competition.
