Wednesday was an unfortunate day for the hosts of the women’s European Volleyball Championships. Turkey was the only one to win the game that day.
In Ankara both games finished in three sets – both grup favorites, Serbia and Turkey, won with Greece and France respectively. This way the final game on Thursday will decide about the first place in the group.
In Łódź Poland lost to Belgium despite three match balls in the fifth set, meaning they need to win against Italy on Thursday to avoid Russia in the round of 16. The game for the fourth place was also won 3-2 by Slovenia against Ukraine.
Hungary’s 0-3 loss against Croatia meant they won’t advance to the play-off, being the only host to miss the top 16. Meanwhile Azerbaijan defeated Estonia in tie-break, leaving them without a victory in the group stage.
In Bratislava Germany finished with another 3-0 victory, against Belarus, securing the first place. Also Russia won in three sets against Spain.
