India, China and Australia took the gold medals on the first day of 2019 Junior Track Cycling World Championships. The competition held in Frankfurt (Oder) will last until Sunday.
The only individual medal event of the opening day of the Championships was women’s scratch. It was won by an Australian Ella Sibley ahead of Chilean Catalina Soto and British Ella Barnwell.
Team sprints were dominated by Asians as India took the men’s gold and China were best among women. Men’s competition brought second medal for Australia and Great Britain – they were placed second and third respectively. Among women the podium was completed by European nations only – host Germans with silver and they closest neighbour Poland (Frankfurt an der Oder is located on the German-Polish border).
