Three sets of medals were distributed during the opening day of 2020 Track Cycling World Championships in Berlin. The most successful team was the Netherlands with two golds.

The orange shirt was changed into the rainbow stripes thanks to Kirsten Wild winning the women’s scratch. The Dutch woman came back to claim the throne in that event after a year’s break (She lost the title to Elinor Barker in Pruszków last year). This year, Wild was accompanied on the podium by an American Jennifer Valente and Portuguese Maria Martins.

The other two events held on Wednesday were team sprints. Among the men, the Netherlands triumphed over the Brits in the final, while Australia finished with the bronze by beating France. The women’s event brought the hosts euphoria as the German team took gold after defeating the Australians in the final. The podium was completed by China, who beat Russia in the race for bronze.

The team sprints were the first events in which the Olympic qualification process has finished. The list of qualified teams is available on our forum in this dedicated topic.
