The 135th IOC Session rubber-stamped the proposal of the IOC Executive Board to give the hosting rights of 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games to Korean province of Gangwon. It was agreed almost unaniomusly.
With 79 votes for, 2 against and 1 abstention; the Korean province of Gangwon was awarded the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games. That decision gives hope to hosting the Alpine Skiing events in North Korea, as historically the province is part of both countries located on the Korean Penninsula.
Gangwon was unopposed as Brasov, Romania decided to step out of the bid process due to conflict of interests of Octavian Morariu. Morariu, Chair of Future Host Commission, played the role usually held by the Evaluation Commissions in this case, which lead to the conflict of interest.
