Bahrain won the men’s Asian Olympic qualification in Doha. The hosts of the qualifier got eliminated from the Road to Tokyo.

Group stage didn’t give many surprises – with all the matches won Qatar won the group A ahead of Saudi Arabia, India and Hong Kong, while South Korea and Bahrain were one point ahead of Iran with Kuwait finishing in the last place in the group B.

The surprising result of semifinal was a victory of Bahrain 28-26 over Qatar, leaving the former World Championships silver medalists without a chance for a start in Tokyo. In the other match South Korea defeated Saudi Arabia 29-26. The final was won by Bahrain 34-29, giving this nation an Olympic debut in handball.

South Korea will play in the IHF Qualification Tournament, where they’ll meet Chile and two other teams – Norway or France and Spain, Egypt or Brazil. The final roster of the tournament depends on the results of the remaining two continental qualifiers – African and European Championships, which will both be held in January.
